1 Scope
This document stipulates the designation representation, order content, size, shape,
weight, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking and
quality certificate of low alloy steel plates with specified low temperature properties for
pressure equipment.
This document is applicable to the manufacture of low-alloy steel plates (hereinafter
referred to as steel plates) – with an operating temperature of not less than -70 °C and
a thickness of 5 mm ~ 120 mm – for pressure equipment.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 713.1 apply.
4 Designation representation
4.1 When named by strength: the designation of steel consists of the Chinese Pinyin
initial “Q” of “Qu” (yield) representing the yield strength, the specified minimum lower
yield strength value, and the Chinese Pinyin initials “DR” of “Di” (low) and “Rong”
(vessel) representing the low temperature pressure vessel.
Example: Q420DR. Where:
Q – the Chinese Pinyin initial of “Qu” (yield) representing the yield strength;
420 – the specified minimum lower yield strength, in megapascals (MPa);
DR – the Chinese Pinyin initials of “Di” (low) and “Rong” (vessel).
4.2 When named by chemical composition: the designation of steel consists of two
digits representing the average carbon content, the chemical element symbol
representing alloy element letter, and the Chinese pinyin initials “DR” of “Di” (low)
and “Rong” (vessel) representing the low temperature pressure vessel.
Example: 11MnNiMoDR. Where:
11 – average carbon content (in parts per 10,000);
MnNiMo – manganese, nickel, molybdenum alloy element letters;
DR – the Chinese Pinyin initials of “Di” (low) and “Rong” (vessel).
5 Order content
The order content of steel plates shall comply with the regulations of GB/T 713.1.
6 Size, shape, weight
The size, shape, and weight of steel plates shall comply with the regulations of GB/T
713.1.
7.4.3 The lateral expansion value shall be measured in the impact test of designations
Q420DR and Q460DR, and the lateral expansion value shall not be less than 0.53 mm.
7.4.4 As negotiated between the supplier and the buyer, and specified in the contract,
the low-temperature impact absorption energy of the steel plate can be delivered at a
value higher than that in Table 2, and the specific value is specified in the contract.
7.4.5 When the supplier guarantees that the bending is qualified, the bending test does
not need to be performed.
7.4.6 According to the requirements of the buyer, a set of impact tests with samples
taken at 1/2 of the thickness of the steel plate can be added for steel plates with a
thickness greater than 36 mm. The test temperature and impact absorption energy
qualification value shall be specified in the contract.
7.4.7 According to the requirements of the buyer, an additional drop weight test can be
added to steel plates with a thickness greater than 36 mm. The test shall be carried out
in accordance with GB/T 6803 and P-2 type samples shall be used. The qualification
index of the nil-ductility transition (NDT) temperature shall be noted in the contract.
7.5 Surface quality
The surface quality of steel plates shall comply with the regulations of GB/T 713.1.
7.6 Non-destructive testing
7.6.1 For steel plates of designations Q420DR and Q460DR with a thickness of 6 mm
and above, steel plates delivered in a normalized or normalized + tempered state with a
thickness greater than 20 mm, and steel plates delivered in a quenched and tempered
state with a thickness greater than 16 mm, the supplier shall perform ultrasonic testing
one by one.
7.6.2 Steel plates of other thicknesses can also be subjected to ultrasonic testing one by
one upon negotiation between the supplier and the buyer.
7.6.3 Ultrasonic testing shall be carried out in accordance with NB/T 47013.3, and the
qualification level shall not be lower than Level I. Special requirements, if any, shall be
indicated in the contract.
8 Test methods
8.1 The chemical composition test of steel is generally conducted in accordance with
GB/T 4336, GB/T 20123, GB/T 20125 or general chemical analysis methods. The
arbitration is conducted in accordance with GB/T 223.3, GB/T 223.9, GB/T 223.12,
GB/T 223.17, GB/T 223.23, GB/T 223.26, GB/T 223.40, GB/T 223.63, GB/T 223.68,
GB/T 223.69 and GB/T 223.76.

5 Order content
The order content of steel plates shall comply with the regulations of GB/T 713.1.
6 Size, shape, weight
The size, shape, and weight of steel plates shall comply with the regulations of GB/T
713.1.
7.4.3 The lateral expansion value shall be measured in the impact test of designations
Q420DR and Q460DR, and the lateral expansion value shall not be less than 0.53 mm.
7.4.4 As negotiated between the supplier and the buyer, and specified in the contract,
the low-temperature impact absorption energy of the steel plate can be delivered at a
value higher than that in Table 2, and the specific value is specified in the contract.
7.4.5 When the supplier guarantees that the bending is qualified, the bending test does
not need to be performed.
7.4.6 According to the requirements of the buyer, a set of impact tests with samples
taken at 1/2 of the thickness of the steel plate can be added for steel plates with a
thickness greater than 36 mm. The test temperature and impact absorption energy
qualification value shall be specified in the contract.
7.4.7 According to the requirements of the buyer, an additional drop weight test can be
added to steel plates with a thickness greater than 36 mm. The test shall be carried out
in accordance with GB/T 6803 and P-2 type samples shall be used. The qualification
index of the nil-ductility transition (NDT) temperature shall be noted in the contract.
7.5 Surface quality
The surface quality of steel plates shall comply with the regulations of GB/T 713.1.
7.6 Non-destructive testing
7.6.1 For steel plates of designations Q420DR and Q460DR with a thickness of 6 mm
and above, steel plates delivered in a normalized or normalized + tempered state with a
thickness greater than 20 mm, and steel plates delivered in a quenched and tempered
state with a thickness greater than 16 mm, the supplier shall perform ultrasonic testing

7.6.2 Steel plates of other thicknesses can also be subjected to ultrasonic testing one by

qualification level shall not be lower than Level I. Special requirements, if any, shall be
indicated in the contract.
8 Test methods
8.1 The chemical composition test of steel is generally conducted in accordance with
GB/T 4336, GB/T 20123, GB/T 20125 or general chemical analysis methods. The
arbitration is conducted in accordance with GB/T 223.3, GB/T 223.9, GB/T 223.12,
GB/T 223.17, GB/T 223.23, GB/T 223.26, GB/T 223.40, GB/T 223.63, GB/T 223.68,
GB/T 223.69 and GB/T 223.76.
