3.1
Integrated dental floss and handles
An oral cleaning tool, which is consisted of a retainer and a thread made of synthetic

requirements of the Order No.75 [2005] of the General Administration of Quality
Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China "Measures
for the Supervision and Administration of Quantitative Packaged Commodities".
4.5 Packaging appearance
The packaging shall be smooth and straight; the pattern shall be printed clearly; the
color registration shall be accurate; the packaging shall be flat and free of cracks and
glue.
5 Test methods
The water used in this standard, unless otherwise specified, is water that meets the
requirements of GB/T 6682.
5.1 Microbial indicators
5.1.1 Specimen preparation
Under sterile conditions, take 5 integrated dental floss and handles. Place them in 50
mL of sterilized physiological saline (put in a few glass beads in advance). Shake them
uniformly. Use them as test solutions, for later use.
5.1.2 Measurement procedure
Make measurement, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Hygienic
Standards for Cosmetics" of the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China.
5.2 Toxic substance limits
Make measurement, according to the method specified in GB 19342.
5.3 Sensory indicators
5.3.1 Appearance: The integrated dental floss and handle can be visually inspected, at
a distance of 300 mm under natural light or 40 W light. Meanwhile it can be inspected
by hand. For areas that are difficult to see, a magnifying glass or electron microscope
shall be used for observation.
5.3.2 Decolorization test: Use cotton, which is fully soaked in 65% ethanol, to wipe the
handle and dental floss back and forth 100 times. Visually observe whether there is
color on the cotton.
5.4 Breaking strength of integrated dental floss and handles
5.4.1 Instrumentation
a) Holder: It shall have an adjustment device, to provide appropriate clamping force
when clamping the dental floss, to prevent the dental floss from slipping. The
surface where the jaws of the holder are in contact with the specimen can have a
liner, to minimize the slip or damage of the specimen in the clamping area;
b) Hook: The tensile strength is not less than 100 N, which has a smooth surface and
a diameter of (3.0 ± 0.5) mm;
c) Lanyard: The tensile strength is not less than 100 N;
d) Weight: The mass is 1 kg;
e) Container: It is used for immersing specimen in water;
f) Other test tools: The stopwatch, support device, etc. required for the test.
5.4.2 Specimen preparation
Take 10 integrated dental floss and handles. Immerse them in distilled or deionized
water, which has a temperature of (37 ± 2) °C. The immersion time is 90 s ~ 100 s.
5.4.3 Test temperature
The test temperature is kept at (23 ± 5) °C.
5.4.4 Operation steps
a) Connect hooks, lanyards, weights as weight devices, with supporting devices
underneath;
b) Take out 1 integrated dental floss and handle specimen by hand. Shake it twice
quickly, to remove excess moisture on the surface of the specimen. Place the
handle of the integrated dental floss and handle in the holder. Ensure that the
dental floss is level. The horizontal distance between the front end of the holder
and the center of the dental floss is (30 ± 1) mm;
c) At 55 s ~ 60 s after the specimen is completely infiltrated, hang the weight device
in the middle of the dental floss; adjust the support device, so that the weight
device is fully vertically extended AND the hook just touches the dental floss (see
Figure 1)
d) Slowly remove the supporting device (the supporting device shall not be removed
too quickly, to avoid a sudden increase in tension on the dental floss). Then start
timekeeping. Keep the specimen under load for 10 s ~ 11 s;
e) According to the above conditions, repeatedly test the other 9 integrated dental
floss and handle specimens, to observe whether the dental floss and handle are
broken, whether the dental floss is pulled out.
