Foreword
This Standard replaces GB/T 8885-1988 "Edible corn starch".
Compared with GB/T 8885-1988, the main differences in this Standard are as follows.
- According to food safety and hygienic requirements and international practice,
add microbiological criteria;
- ADD inspection rules;
- REVISE the sensory requirements TO. appearance and smell; CANCEL taste
and impurities;
- Colour and whiteness are no longer valued according to white corn and yellow
corn;
- Moisture of each level is uniformly revised to be not more than 14.0%;
- Acidity is revised to. premium grade products of no more than 1.50°T, first grade
products of not more than 1.80°T, second grade products of not more than
2.00°T;
- Ash content is revised to. second grade products of not more than 0.18%;
- Protein is revised to. premium grade products of no more than 0.35%, first grade
products of not more than 0.45%, second grade products of not more than
0.60%;
- Spots is revised to. premium grade products of not more than 0.7/cm2, second
grade products of not more than 1.0/cm2;
- Fineness is revised to. premium grade products of not less than 99.5%, first
grade products of not less than 99.0%, second grade products of not less than
98.5%;
- Fat is revised to. premium grade products of not more than 0.10%, first grade
products of not more than 0.15%, second grade products of not less than 0.20%;
- Whiteness is revised to. premium grade products of not less than 88.0%, first
grade products of not less than 87.0%, second grade products of not less than
85.0%;
- Sensory test and test methods of protein, fat and sulphur dioxide are conducted
according to GB/T 12309 “Industrial corn starch”;
Edible corn starch
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, labelling,
marking, packaging, transportation and storage of edible corn starch.
This Standard applies to edible starch produced by corn (raw materials shall comply
with food standards).
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Standard through
reference in this Standard. For dated references, the subsequent amendments
(excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this Standard, however, the
parties who reach an agreement based on this Standard are encouraged to study if
the latest versions of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the
latest edition of the referenced document applies.

CONDUCT according to GB/T 12096-1989. Wherein 4.2 is conducted according to the
following specification. 0.15mm test screen.
4.9 Whiteness
CONDUCT according to GB/T 12097-1989. Wherein 4.1 is conducted according to the
following specifications. whiteness meter. wavelengths is between 420nm ~ 470nm,
with a suitable sample box and standard whiteboard, accurate to 0.1.
4.10 Sulphur dioxide
CONDUCT according to 4.3.8 in GB/T 12309-1990.
4.11 Arsenic
CONDUCT according to GB/T 5009.11.
4.12 Lead
CONDUCT according to GB/T 5009.12.
4.13 Coliforms
CONDUCT according to GB/T 4789.3.
4.14 Mould
CONDUCT according to GB/T 4789.15.
5 Inspection rules
5.1 Batch and sampling
5.1.1 Batch
The products that are well packaged, of the same type and same specification,
produced by same batch of raw materials, at same production date, in same production
line are deemed as a batch.
5.1.2 Sampling
Sampling scheme of each batch is calculated according to Formula (1).

n - Number of packages sampled, in bags;
N - Total number of package in batches, in bags.
5.2 Exit-factory inspection
Exit-factory inspection items are sensory requirements and physiochemical indicators,
the products can only exit the factory after the inspection is qualified.
5.3 Type inspection
5.3.1 Type inspection includes all items in technical requirements.
5.3.2 The products are inspected once every six months during normal production. It
shall inspect timely if the following conditions occur.
a) when type identification of new products;
b) when key process and device are changed;
c) when production is resumed after it has been shut down for more than six
months;
d) when there are big difference between results of factory-exit inspection and last
type inspection;
e) when it is required to conduct type inspection by the national quality supervision
agencies or the competent departments.
5.4 Determination rules
5.4.1 If there is one item of hygienic indicators is determined unqualified, then this
batch of products is determined unqualified.
5.4.2 Re-inspection. products with unqualified labelling, marking and packaging are
allowed to apply for re-inspection once after correction, the re-inspection results shall
prevail. If there is one item of sensory requirements and physiochemical indicators is
determined unqualified, then it can double sampling to inspect, the re-inspection
results shall prevail.
6 Labelling, marking, packaging, transportation and storage
6.1 Labelling, marking
Labelling is conducted according to GB 7718; marking shall meet the requirements of
GB/T 191.
