Water-Based Coatings for Container
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the product classification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules,
marking, packaging and storage requirements of water-based coatings for steel general
containers and their supporting systems.
This Standard applies to water-based coatings and their supporting systems for protecting and
decorating the surface of general-purpose container steel structures. It includes two or more
layers of coating film inside and outside the container, and floor primer and topcoat inside the
container.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this Standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 Water-based coatings
Coatings that take water as solvent or dispersion medium.
4 Product Classification
4.1 The water-based coatings for container in this Standard are divided into the following
categories according to their application functions: primer, intermediate paint, interior topcoat,
exterior paint, underframe paint, floor primer and topcoat.
4.2 The supporting system of water-based coatings for container in this Standard are divided
into: exterior supporting coatings, interior supporting coatings, underframe supporting coatings,
and floor supporting coatings.
4.2.1 Exterior supporting coatings
The outer surface of the container is generally coated with a three-layer coating film, including
primer, intermediate paint and exterior paint. The exterior supporting coating can also be a two-
layer matching system of primer and topcoat.
4.2.2 Interior supporting coatings
The inner surface of the container is generally coated with two-layer coating film, including
primer and topcoat.
4.2.3 Underframe supporting coatings
The surface of the container underframe is generally coated with two-layer coating film,
including primer and topcoat.
4.2.4 Floor supporting coatings
The surface of the container floor is generally coated with single-layer or multi-layer coating
film; and can also be coated with two-layer supporting coating film, including primer and
topcoat.
5 Requirements
5.1 The water-based coatings for container shall meet the requirements of Tables 1 and 2.
5.2 Water-based coatings for container and the interior and exterior coating supporting systems
shall meet the requirements of Table 3.
5.3 The limit of harmful substances in water-based coatings for container shall meet the
requirements in Table 4.
6.2.1 Test environment
The specimen conditioning and the test temperature and humidity shall comply with the
provisions of GB/T 9278.
6.2.2 Preparation of test sample plate
6.2.2.1 When the tested product does not indicate the dilution ratio, make the plate after stirring
evenly.
6.2.2.2 When the tested product clearly indicates the dilution ratio, the items that need to be
tested for plate preparation shall be conducted by adding water according to the specified
dilution ratio. If the tested product clearly indicates the dilution ratio range, the intermediate
value shall be taken.
6.2.2.3 For the test plate of water-based coatings for container and their supporting systems, the
used base material of the sample plate shall adopt the steel plate with steel grade of 09CuPCrNi-
A in China or its equivalent standard. The steel plate shall be free of rust, scratches, stains,
discoloration and other surface defects, etc. Before the steel plate is painted, the oil stains shall
be removed, and the surface shall be free of visible grease and dirt before shot blasting. The
steel plate can also be treated by the cleaning and mechanical grinding methods specified in
GB/T 9271-2008. After treatment, the surface cleanliness of the steel plate shall reach Sa2.5,
and the surface roughness shall be 25μm~50μm.
For the test sample plate of water-based floor coatings for container, except that the base
materials of the sample plate with cut-resistance is aluminum plate or glass plate, the base
materials of other items are the floor material used in the container, including eucalyptus, pine,
birch, bamboo and bamboo-wood mixed planks.
By agreement between the two parties, other base materials of sample plate or treatment
methods different from this standard may also be used, but which shall be indicated in the report.
6.2.2.4 For the preparation of single-coating sample plate of water-based coatings for container...
