Dentifrice
1 Scope
This standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules,
markings, packaging, transportation, storage, shelf life of dentifrice.
This standard applies to dentifrice for oral applications.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this standard
through reference in this standard. For the dated references, the subsequent
amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this standard;
however, parties who reach an agreement based on this standard are
encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents are applicable.
For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document applies.

prepackages with fixed content
Order No.75 of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection
and Quarantine of the PRC [2005] “Measures for the supervisory
administration of the measurement of quantitative packaging commodities”
3 Requirements
3.1 Sensory, physical-chemical indicators
The sensory and physical-chemical indicators of dentifrice shall meet the
4.1 Appearance
Take a box/bag of dentifrice. Take appropriate amount of sample on white paper
or white porcelain plate. Perform visual identification. It shall meet the
appearance requirements.
4.2 Fragrance
Take a box/bag of dentifrice. Smell the fragrance to identify it.
4.3 Determination of fineness
4.3.1 Instrument
a) Metal standard sieve: 0.045 mm (325 mesh);
b) Funnel;
c) Quantitative filter paper;
d) Oven: Accuracy ± 2 °C;
e) Balance: Accuracy of 0.1 g.
4.3.2 Operation procedures
Accurately weigh 10.0 g of the specimen into a metal standard sieve which has
a bore diameter of 0.045 mm and is previously wetted by water. Use small water
stream to rinse the specimen in the sieve (the water flow shall not be too large,
to avoid splashing of sample). Meanwhile rotate the sieve in an inclined manner,
until there is no sieved material below sieve passing through the mesh. Flush
the materials above the sieve into the funnel which has the test paper [which
has been dried to constant weight in an oven at (105 ± 2) °C] to filter it. Dry the
filter residue together with the filter paper at the constant temperature of (105 ±
2) °C to constant weight.
4.3.3 Calculation results
The fineness X1 which is expressed in mass fraction is calculated according to
formula (1):
Where:
X1 - Materials which pass through the metal standard sieve which has a bore
diameter of 0.045 mm, %;
4.5 Determination of pH (10% suspension liquid)
4.5.1 Instruments
a) pH meter: Accuracy of 0.02 pH unit;
b) Thermometer: Accuracy of 0.2 °C:
c) Balance: Accuracy of 0.01 g.
4.5.2 Determination procedure
Take a box/bag of dentifrice. Weigh 5 g of dentifrice (accurate to 0.01 g) from it
and place it in a 100 mL beaker. Add 45 mL of distilled water which was pre-
boiled and then cooled. Stir it uniformly. Use a calibrated pH meter to make
determination at 20 °C.
4.5.3 Calculation results
Take the arithmetic mean of the two tests as the determination result.
4.6 Hard particles
4.6.1 Instruments
Hard particle analyzer.
4.6.2 Determination procedure
Take a box/bag of dentifrice. Weigh 5 g of dentifrice. Put it in a 50 mL beaker.
Add water dropwise to form a thick slurry. Place the slurry on the scratch-free
glass slide (75 mm x 25 mm). Place the slide in the fixing groove of the analyzer.
Press the rubbing copper block. Turn on it to make the copper block rub back
and forth for 100 times. Stop rubbing. Remove the slide. Use water or hot nitric
acid (1 + 1) to wash the slide clean. Then observe whether the slide has scratch.
4.7 Hygienic indicators
It is determined according to the provisions of GB 8372.
4.8 Net content
Take 10 boxes/bag of samples. Make determination according to the provisions
of JJF 1070-2005.
5 Inspection rules
5.1 Classification of inspections
Table 3
From the handover site or the finished product warehouse of dentifrice,
randomly take box samples. In the course of inspection and acceptance of the
packaging quality, all small packages in the checked box are inspected
according to the requirements for packaging appearance. The total qualification
rate is 10%. Then from each box, randomly take small packages, to make the
total number of samples be not less than 40 boxes/bags.
5.2.3 Determination rules
If it is judged as unqualified batches in the exit-factory inspection, it may double
the samples from this batch of products to re-inspect the unqualified items. If
one item of reinspection fails, this batch of products is unqualified. When the
both parties disagree with the inspection results, they may be subjected to
arbitration tests according to this standard. Use the arbitration results as the
final basis.
6 Marking, packaging, transportation, storage, shelf
life
6.1 Marking
6.1.1 The sales package shall have the following markings:
a) Product’s name, trademark;
b) Net content;
c) Name and address of the manufacturer;
d) Number of standard used;
e) Instructions for use;
f) Shelf life, date of manufacture or date of restricted use.
6.1.2 The outer packaging shall have the following markings:
a) Product’s name, trademark;
