Foreword
This Standard replaces YB/T 115-1997 Silica Fume for Unshaped Refractory.
Compared with YB/T 115-1997, the main changes of this Standard are as follows.
- Modify the second paragraph of scope;
- Add the notations for designations; use designations to replace the grade of the
previous standard;
- Adjust the reference standards in the previous standard; add the reference standard
GB/T 9724;
- Adjust the indexes of calcium-magnesium, potassium-sodium and loss on ignition of
the previous standard;
- Change the batch in the previous standard from “10t/batch” into “20t/batch”;
- Change the factory-exit inspection of the previous standard from 6 items to 5 items.
Annex A of this Standard is normative.
This Standard was proposed by China Iron and Steel Association.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of China Metallurgical Information and
Standard Institute.
Drafting organizations of this Standard. Tianjin Chaoyang Refractory Factory, and China
Metallurgical Information and Standard Institute.
Main drafters of this Standard. Xu Daxiong, Chen Zhiqiang, and Gao Jianping.
This Standard was first-time released in 1997.
Silica Fume for Unshaped Refractory
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the designations, technical requirements, test methods, packaging,
marking, storage, transport, and quality certificates of silica fume for unshaped refractory.
This Standard applies to that – when smelting ferrous alloys or industrial silicon, silica-
bearing fume are gathered by fume hoods; after oxidized and agglomerated, silica fume is
collected through dry dust collectors.

3 Designations
SF – the English acronym for silica fume. The number following after it is the percentage
content of silica.
Silica fume has 4 designations in total, that is, SF96, SF93, SF90, and SF88.
4. Technical Requirements
The physiochemical indexes of silica fume are shown in Table 1. Any special requirements
can be determined through negotiation by supplier and purchaser.
5 Test Methods
5.1 Silica shall be determined in accordance with GB/T 6901.2 or GB/T 6901.3.
5.2 Alumina shall be determined in accordance with GB/T 6901.5 or GB/T 6901.6.
5.3 Ferric oxide shall be determined in accordance with GB/T 6901.4.
