Determination of Nonwoven Fabric Mass Per Unit Area
This Standard adopts by reference of international standard ISO 9073-1-1989 Textiles – Test
Methods for Nonwovens – Part 1: Determination of Mass Per Unit Area.
1 Subject Content and Applicable Scope
This Standard specifies the determination method of nonwoven fabric mass per unit area.
This Standard is applicable to various kinds of nonwoven fabric.
2 Normative References
GB 6529 Standard Atmospheres for Textiles Conditioning and Testing
GB 8170 Rules for Rounding off of Numerical Values
3 Principle
Cut the specimen according to the specified size to measure its mass; and calculate it as the
mass per square meter, the unit is g/m2.
4 Instruments and Apparatuses
4.1 The area of template that is used to cut the specimen is 50 000 mm2 (that is, 250 mm × 200
mm); scissors and steel ruler, the scale of the steel ruler is accurate to 0.5 mm.
4.2 Weighing balance: its sensibility is 0.01 g.
5 Sampling
There shall be no obvious creases and flaws affecting the test quality on the sample. Samples
shall be taken at a distance of more than 1m from the end of the fabric, and a 1m-long sample
shall be cut for each variety.
