1 Scope
This standard applies to complementary food nutritional supplements for infants and
young children, who are aged 6 months ~ 36 months AND children who are aged 37
months ~ 60 months.
2 Terms and definitions
2.1 Complementary food
Foods, which are added to meet nutritional needs, including home-prepared and
factory-produced, while infants and young children continue to be breastfed, beyond
6 months of age.
2.2 Complementary food nutritional supplements
A supplement, which contains a variety of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals,
etc.), has food matrix and other excipients, is added to ready-to-eat complementary
foods for infants and young children aged 6 months ~ 36 months, OR for children
aged 37 months ~ 60 months. At present, the commonly used forms are
complementary nutrient supplement food, complementary nutrient supplement
tablet, complementary nutrient sprinkler.
2.2.1 Complementary nutrient supplementary foods
Complementary nutritional supplements, which are made of one or more of
soybeans, soybean protein products, milk, milk protein products as food substrates,
by adding a variety of micronutrients and/or other excipients. The food form can be
powder or granular or semi-solid; the food matrix can provide some high-quality
protein.
2.2.2 Complementary nutrient supplement tablet
A flake-like complementary nutritional supplement, which is made of one or more
of soybeans, soybean protein products, milk, milk protein products as the food
matrix, by adding a variety of micronutrients and/or other excipients. It is brittle OR
easy to disperse.
2.2.3 Complementary nutrient sprinklers
Powdered or granular complementary nutrient supplements, which are mixed with
a variety of micronutrients. It may not contain food substrates.
3 Technical requirements
3.1 Recommended daily servings of complementary nutrient supplements
Complementary nutrient supplement food is 10.0 g ~ 20.0 g. Complementary nutrient
supplement tablet is 1.5 g ~ 3.0 g. Complementary nutrient sprinkler is 0.8 g ~ 2.0 g.
3.2 Raw material requirements
3.2.1 The food substrate shall be ready-to-eat food raw materials. Its quality shall meet
the corresponding standards and/or relevant provisions.
3.2.2 Soybeans and their processed products shall be treated at high temperature, to
eliminate anti-nutritional factors, such as trypsin inhibitors.
3.2.3 Complementary materials shall comply with corresponding standards and/or
relevant provisions.
3.3 Sensory requirements
The color, taste, smell, texture state of complementary nutritional supplements shall
conform to the characteristics of the corresponding product. There shall be no foreign
objects visible with normal vision.
3.4 Essential ingredients
In the complementary nutrient supplement food, the protein content shall not be less
than 25 g/100 g; the inspection method shall meet the requirements of GB 5009.5; the
protein content shall be calculated as nitrogen (N) × 6.25.
The content of other nutrients, in the complementary nutritional supplements, shall
meet the requirements in Table 1, when converted into daily servings.
