Chapters 4, 5 and 6 of this standard are compulsory; and the rest are recommendatory.
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB 6944-2005 “Classification and Code of Dangerous Goods”.
Compared with GB 6944-2005, this standard has the following changes.
— Terms and definitions as well as the classification and division criteria of different
dangerous goods in the former standard were revised;
— Classification and combination of explosives compatibility groups were added;
— The procedure of risk degree of dangerous goods were added;
— Packing groups of dangerous goods were added.
The contents of this standard are consistent with the United Nations "Model Regulations of
Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods" (Sixteenth Revised Edition) “Part 2
- Technical contents of classification”.
This standard was proposed by the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China.
This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on
Dangerous Chemicals Management of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC
251).
Drafting organizations of this standard. China Waterborne Transport Research Institute, and
Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry
Chief drafting staffs of this standard. Chen Rongchang, Gu Huili, Wu Weiping, Fan Bin, Chen
Zhengcai, and Chu Jiacheng.

Classification and Code of Dangerous Goods
1 Scope
This standard specifies the classification of dangerous goods, the procedure of risk degree of
dangerous goods, and the code of dangerous goods.
This standard is applicable to dangerous goods’ transport, storage, sales, and related activities.
2 Normative References
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this standard. For dated
references, only the dated edition is applicable to this document. For undated references, the
latest editions of the normative documents (including all the amendments) are applicable to
this document.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in the United Nations
"Model Regulations of Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods" (Sixteenth
Revised Edition) (hereinafter referred to as "Model Regulations" as well as the following ones
apply.
3.1
Dangerous goods
f) Substances of Division 5.2;
g) Substances of Division 6.1 with a packing group I inhalation toxicity;
h) Substances of Division 6.2;
i) Material of Class 7.
5.4 Apart from radioactive substance in expected packages, radioactive substance having other
hazardous properties shall always be classified in Class 7 and the subsidiary risk shall also be
identified.
6 Code of Dangerous Goods
Code of dangerous goods shall adopt the UN numbers.
