Luminaires - Part 2-4: Particular requirements -
Portable general purpose luminaires
1 General
1.1 Scope
This Part of GB 7000 specifies requirements for portable general purpose
luminaires, other than handlamps, for use with electric lights on supply voltages
not exceeding 250 V. It is to be read in conjunction with those sections of GB
7000.1 to which reference is made.
1.2 Normative references
The following standards contain the provisions which, through reference in this
Part, constitute the provisions of this Part. For dated references, subsequent

However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this Part are
encouraged to investigate whether the latest versions of these documents are
applicable. For undated reference documents, the latest versions apply to this
Part.
GB 4208 Degrees of protection provided by enclosure (IP code) (GB 4208-
2008, IEC 60529:2001, IDT)
2 General test requirements
The provisions of section 0 of GB 7000.1 apply. The tests described in each
appropriate section of GB 7000.1 shall be carried out in the order listed in this
Part.
3 Definitions
The definitions of section 1 of GB 7000.1 apply with the following addition:
3.1 Candlestick luminaires
A portable luminaire having series connected lamps permanently mounted and
separated on a free-standing frame.
1) be so designed that the lamp cap is not accessible to the standard test
finger when the luminaire is assembled as in normal use, or
2) be provided with a metal lampholder which is earthed.
Compliance shall be checked by inspection and, in addition, for Item 1) by a
test with the standard test finger shown in GB 7000.1.
12 Endurance tests and thermal tests
The provisions of section 12 of GB 7000.1 apply.
Luminaires with an IP classification greater than IP20 shall be subjected to the
relevant tests of 12.4, 12.5 and 12.6 of section 12 of GB 7000.1 after the test(s)
of 9.2 but before the test(s) of 9.3 of section 9 of GB 7000.1 specified in 4.13 of
this section of GB 7000.1.
Portable luminaires designed for standing on a floor, and pendants, are
supported during the test as in normal use.
Portable luminaires designed for standing on a table, and adjustable luminaires,
are tested on or above a dull black painted board similar to that described in
annex D of GB 7000.1.
In addition, for portable luminaires designed for standing on a floor or table
which overturn when placed in their normal position of use on a plane inclined
at an angle of 15° to the horizontal, the test of 12.5.1 of section 12 of GB 7000.1
is made with the luminaire on a horizontal surface, in the most unfavorable of
the overturned positions that may reasonably be expected in practice.
13 Resistance to dust and moisture
The provisions of section 9 of GB 7000.1 apply.
For luminaires with an IP classification greater than IP20, the order of the tests
specified in section 9 of GB 7000.1 shall be as specified in 4.12 of this Part of
GB 7000.1.
14 Insulation resistance and electric strength
The provisions of section 10 of GB 7000.1 apply.
