Foreword
This Standard modifies and adopts international standards ISO 3755.1991 "Cast Carbon
Steels for General Engineering Purposes" and ISO 4S90.2003 "Steel Castings - General
Technical Delivery Requirements".
This Standard integrates, modifies and adopts ISO 3755.1991 and ISO 4990.2003. The
differences of main technical contents are as follows.
— Significant revision has been made to the structure, such as. Chapter 7 of ISO
3755.1991 has been revised; Table 1 permissible variation in chemical composition
and Table 2 alternate material list in ISO 4990.2003 have been deleted.
— Specification, sampling location and dimension of mechanical property test blocks in
Annex B of ISO 4990.2003 have been revised.
Comparison table between this Standard’s clauses and international standard’s clauses are
given in Annex C for the convenient comparison.
This Standard shall replace GB/T 11352-1989 "Carbon Steel Castings for General
Engineering Purpose". Compared with GB/T 11352-1989, the following main technical
contents are revised in this Standard.
— Add the spectral analysis method for chemical composition analysis;
— S and P controlling quantities of each designation are reduced;
— Test blocks for mechanical property of attached castings and single-cast test block are
listed for adoption.
Annex A, B and C in this Standard are informative.
This Standard was proposed by China Machinery Industry Federation.

Carbon Steel Castings
for General Engineering Purpose
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the designation, technical requirements, test methods, inspection
rules, marking, packaging, storage and transport of carbon steel castings for general
engineering purpose.
This Standard is applicable to carbon steel castings for general engineering purpose.
2 Normative references
The following normative documents contain the provisions which, through reference in this
text, constitute the provisions of this Standard. For dated reference, the subsequent
amendments (excluding the corrigendum) or revisions of these publications do not apply to
this Standard. However, parties who enter into an agreement based on this Standard are
encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards

5.1 Analyses of chemical composition
5.1.1 Chemical analysis or spectral analysis shall be adopted for the analyses of chemical
composition. Test blocks for chemical analysis or spectral analysis shall be produced in the
casting process.
5.1.2 Sampling method for samples used for chemical analysis shall be selected according to
those specified in GB/T 222.
5.1.3 Routine chemical analysis shall be carried out according to those specified in GB/T
223.3, GB/T 223.4 and GB/T 223.60.
5.1.4 Spectral analysis shall be carried out according to those specified in GB/T 4336.
5.2 Mechanical test
5.2.1 Test block
5.2.1.1 Block for mechanical property test shall be separately casted or be attached to
castings during the casting process. Provided that test blocks are attached to castings, the
position, method and mechanical property of attached castings shall be determined
according to the negotiation between supplier and purchaser. Unless otherwise stated, types
of test block shall be selected by the supplier.
5.2.1.2 Shape and dimension of separately-cast test block, as well as sampling location shall
be in accordance with the requirements of Figure 1.
5.2.1.3 Shape, dimension and sampling location of attached test block shall be determined
by supplier and purchaser through negotiation.
5.2.1.4 Unless otherwise stated, it is required to carry out the same method of heat treatment
to both separately-cast test block and the casting it represents, and make relevant recordings.
5.2.1.5 Before heat treatment for castings, if purchaser or its representative requires to join in
to test and mark on casting, supplier shall not cut off the attached test block completely.
Attached test block shall be marked after heat treatment.
5.2.2 Tensile test
Tensile test shall be carried out according to the provisions of GB/T 228.
5.2. 3 Impact test
Impact test shall be carried out according to the provisions of GB 229.
Results of test for mechanical property and chemical composition can be rounded off
according to the rules of test methods or the provisions of GB/T 8170. Result of dimension
measurement ca not be rounded off.
6.9 Surface quality
Casting's surface quality shall be tested one by one according to requirements of 4.5.
6.10 Geometric shape, dimensional tolerance and machining allowance
Geometric shape and dimension, dimensional tolerance and machining allowance of casting
shall be tested according to the provisions of 4.6.
6.11 Additional requirements of inspection
Additional requirements of both parties for inspection and acceptance.
7 Mark, packaging, transportation and storage
7.1 Mark and certificate of conformity
7.1.1 Some or all of the following marks shall be marked on non-working surface of each
casting, such as.
a) Supplier mark;
b) Batch number;
c) Other signs required by the purchaser.
If it is impossible to mark on casting, marks can be printed on label and attached to each
batch of casting.
7.1.2 Certificate of conformity shall be attached to exit-factory casting; the certificate shall
include.
a) Name of supplier;
b) Casting number or batch number;
c) Drawing number of casting or purchase contract number;
d) Material grade, smelting furnace number and heat treatment condition;
e) Date of built (or serial number);
f) Results of all specified tests;
g) Other contents the both parties agree on.
7.2 Surface protection, packaging, transportation and storage
Casting shall be packed and treated with protective treatment after passing test.
Cast surface protection, transportation and storage shall meet order agreement.

5.1 Analyses of chemical composition
5.1.1 Chemical analysis or spectral analysis shall be adopted for the analyses of chemical
composition. Test blocks for chemical analysis or spectral analysis shall be produced in the
casting process.
5.1.2 Sampling method for samples used for chemical analysis shall be selected according to
those specified in GB/T 222.
5.1.3 Routine chemical analysis shall be carried out according to those specified in GB/T
223.3, GB/T 223.4 and GB/T 223.60.
5.1.4 Spectral analysis shall be carried out according to those specified in GB/T 4336.
5.2 Mechanical test
5.2.1 Test block
5.2.1.1 Block for mechanical property test shall be separately casted or be attached to
castings during the casting process. Provided that test blocks are attached to castings, the
position, method and mechanical property of attached castings shall be determined
according to the negotiation between supplier and purchaser. Unless otherwise stated, types
of test block shall be selected by the supplier.
5.2.1.2 Shape and dimension of separately-cast test block, as well as sampling location shall
be in accordance with the requirements of Figure 1.
5.2.1.3 Shape, dimension and sampling location of attached test block shall be determined
by supplier and purchaser through negotiation.

6.9 Surface quality

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the designation, technical requirements, test methods, inspection
rules, marking, packaging, storage and transport of carbon steel castings for general
engineering purpose.
