Motor Vehicles - Weight Parameter - Measuring
Method
1 Thematic Contents and Applicable Scope
This Standard specifies the measuring conditions and measuring method of the mass
(weight) parameter of motor vehicles.
This Standard is applicable to various types of vehicles. Semi-trailer train may be
referred to for implementation.
2 Normative Reference
GB/T 12534 Motor Vehicles – General Rules of Road Test Method
3 Measuring Conditions
3.1 Measuring device
Truck scale or wheel load scale, with an accuracy of 0.5%.
a. When using a truck scale, the area of the weighing platform shall be able to
accommodate all the axles of the vehicle under test; and the entrance and exit
ground of the weighing platform shall be kept at the same level as the platform;
b. When using wheel load scale, ensure that the upper plane of each wheel load
scale is in the same horizontal plane.
3.2 The vehicle under test must be clean.
3.3 When there are no special provisions, the two conditions of empty and full load are
generally measured.
3.4 During the measurement, the vehicle shall be stopped stably; the engine shall be
turned off; the transmission shall be in neutral; and the brake shall be released.
3.5 The rest of the measurement conditions shall be in accordance with the provisions
of GB/T 12534 Motor Vehicles – General Rules of Road Test Method.
4 Measurement Method
4.1 When using a truck scale to measure, the vehicle firstly drives on the weighing
platform from one direction at a low speed; and then measures the axle load mass
(weight) of each axle and the entire vehicle mass (weight). Then the vehicle turns
around; drives on the weighing platform from the opposite direction; and measures in
sequence the afore-mentioned parameters.
4.2 When measuring by a wheel load scale:
a. First, zero the load scale of each wheel;
b. The vehicle drives to the wheel load scale; and the mass (weight) of each axle
and the mass (weight) of the entire vehicle are measured, respectively.
5 Calculation of Measurement Results
The one-time display value of the wheel load scale method does not need to be
calculated; and the truck scale method is calculated as follows.
5.1 Entire vehicle mass (weight)
Where:
G0 – entire vehicle mass (weight), in kg;
G’0, G’’ 0 – entire vehicle mass (weight) respectively measured when driving on the
weighing platform from two directions, in kg.
5.2 Axle load mass (weight)
5.2.1 Axle load mass (weight)
Where:
- the axle load mass (weight) of the ith axle, in kg;
G’0i, G’’ 0i – the axle load mass (weight) of the ith axle when driving on the weighing
platform from two directions, in kg;
