Foreword
This Standard replaces GB/T 17810-1999 "Feed grade DL-methionine".
The main technical differences between this Standard and GB/T 17810-1999
are as follows.
- REVISE GB/T 6678 in normative references to GB/T 14699.1;
- REVISE 3.1 in previous standard to "Appearance and characters - White
or light gray powder or flaky crystals. It is slightly-soluble in water. It is
extreme-slightly-soluble in ethanol. It is slightly-soluble in diluted acid and
sodium hydroxide (potassium) solutions";
- Tolerance in 4.1.5 of previous standard is adjusted from “absolute
differences of two parallel determination results shall not be greater than
0.1%” to “absolute differences of two parallel determination results shall
not be greater than 0.3%”;
- ADD the product identification methods (ion exchange chromatography);
- MODIFY the determination methods of heavy metals;
- MODIFY the arsenic determination methods;
- ADD "factory-exit inspection" and "type inspection" in inspection rules.
This Standard was proposed by and shall be centralized by National
Standardization Technical Committee of Feed Industry.
This Standard was drafted by Feed Research Institute, Chinese Academy of
Agricultural Sciences.

labeling, packaging, storage, and transportation of feed grade DL-methionine
products.
This Standard applies to the feed grade DL-methionine that uses
methylthiopropanal, cyanide, sulfuric acid, and sodium hydroxide as main raw
materials.
Chemical name. 2-amino-4-methylthio butyric acid

5 Inspection rules
5.1 Products shall be inspected by quality inspection department of the
manufacturer. The manufacturer shall ensure that all products exiting factory
shall meet the requirements of Chapter 3 of this Standard. And accompany
with quality certificates in certain format.
5.2 The products produced and packaged by the same batch of raw materials,
by the same shift, with the same process condition, same batch number, same
specification, and same quality certificates are deemed as a batch.
5.3 The sampling bag quantity shall be executed according to the
specifications of GB/T 14699.1. When sampling, insert the sampler into the
position that is three-fourths of the depth of material layer. The obtained
samples are mixed evenly. USE quartation method to reduce the samples to
about 500 g. PACK in 2 dry, clean bottles with grinding stoppers. PASTE labels
on the bottles. INDICATE the name of manufacturer, product name, production
date, and batch. One bottle is for testing, another bottle is preserved for
standby.
5.4 Factory-exit inspection. Each batch of products shall be conducted for
factory-exit inspection when exiting the factory. The inspection items are
sensory index, loss on drying, and DL-methionine content.
5.5 Type inspection. Type inspection shall be conducted once every 6 months.
Type inspection items include all the requirements specified in Chapter 3 of
this Standard. When there is 1 of the following situations, it shall conduct type
inspection for the product quality.
a) When the production process and the main raw materials are changed;
b) When resuming production after production is shutdown for more than 3
months;
c) When statutory inspection department proposes the requirements;
d) Contractual specification.
5.6 Judgment rules. The products of which all inspection results meet the
requirements of Chapter 3 of this Standard are judged as qualified. When there
is 1 indicator not meeting the requirements of this Standard, it shall be
re-sampled for re-inspection. It is judged as unqualified when there is 1 item in
re-inspection result not complying with this Standard.
5.7 Data processing of this Standard, according to GB/T 1250, uses rounding
value comparison method.
6 Labeling, packaging, transportation, and storage
6.1 The content of labels shall comply with the specification of GB 10648.
6.2 The products are packaged in bags. The packaging bags are divided into 3
layers. The outer layer is polyethylene composite fabric; the middle layer is
kraft paper; and the inner layer is low-density polyethylene film or non-toxic
PVC film. It can also use other packaging that can ensure the product quality.
6.3 The products shall be prevented from rain, moisture, and sunlight during
transportation. It is strictly prohibited that transporting with toxic substances.
6.4 The products shall be stored in a dry, clean indoor warehouse. Avoid the
rain and moisture. It shall not be stored with toxic substances.
6.5 Shelf life of original packaging under specified storage conditions is 36
months.
