Foreword
This Standard equivalently adopts the international standard ISO 377.1997 "Steel and
steel products - Sampling location and sample preparation for mechanical testing".
Major technical contents in this Standard, such as field of application, sample
preparation, sampling location are same as that of ISO 377. According to the actual
circumstances in China, it makes more-detailed specification on the allowance when
sampling the rough specimen, and makes clear specification on the provisions of
horizontal sampling of longitudinal rolling steel plate.
On the basis of the GB 2975-82 "Rules for sampling in mechanical and technological
testing of steel products", this Standard adds the specifications on terms, signs,
specimen state, sampling location in the thickness direction of the products and the
sampling of the square steel tube. In order to be consistent with the provisions of
international standard, it makes some changes on the sampling location of the round-
steel, hexagon-steel and steel-tube.
This Standard replaces GB 2975-82 "Rules for sampling in mechanical and
technological testing of steel products”, from the implementation date of this
Standard.
Annex A of this Standard is normative; Annex B of this Standard is informative.
This Standard was proposed by original Ministry of Metallurgical Industry of the
People's Republic of China.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of China Steel Standardization Technical
Committee.

Steel and Steel Products - Location and Preparation of
Test Pieces for Mechanical Testing
1. Scope
This Standard specifies the requirements of the mechanical testing, sampling location
and sample preparation of the section steel, steel bar, steel plate and steel tube
defined in GB/T 15574. Through negotiation on both sides, this Standard may also
adopt other metal products for sampling.
If the product standard or the mutual agreement has other regulations on the
sampling, it shall execute that regulations.
2. Normative reference
The following standards contain the provisions which, through reference in this text,
constitute the provisions of this Standard. At the time of publication, the editions
indicated were valid. All standards are subject to revision. Parties who enter into
agreements based on this Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of
applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below.

3. Definitions and signs
This Standard adopts the following definitions and signs.
3.1 Definitions
3.1.1 Test unit
According to the product standard or the requirements of the contract, and based on
the experiment conducted on the sample product, the number or tons of the take-over
or rejected products are referred to test unit (see Figure 1).
3.1.2 Sample product
In test and experiment, extractive part of the test unit (for example. a piece of plate) is
referred to sample product (see Figure 1).

Selection of the allowance of the rough specimen
B1 While the rough specimen is taken in the method of burning, it must leave
adequate allowance from the line of cut of the rough specimen to the fringe of the test
piece. It shall be not less than the thickness or diameter of the product in general, but
shall be not less than 20 mm at minimum. For the steel products with thickness or
diameter greater than 60 mm, their allowance may be appropriate reduced according
to the mutual agreement on both sides.
B2 The allowance of the rough specimen in cold shears method shall select according
to Table B1.
