Regulation of mass measurement permissible errors
for jewelry and precious metal product
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the requirements, measurement method and marking for the
mass measurement permissible errors of jewelry and precious metal products.
This Standard applies to the trade and mass measurement of jewelry and precious
metal products.
This Standard applies to single pieces of jewelry and precious metal products whose
mass is less than or equal to 200.00 g. This Standard can be referred to jewelry and
precious metal products of the same kind for a batch settlement whose total mass is
less than or equal to 200.00 g.

diamonds) for which mass is used as the settlement basis
The provisions of permissible errors for mass measurement for all mass ranges are as
follows.
-- when the product mass is m ≤ 1 g, the permissible error for mass measurement
is ± 0.002 g (± 0.01 ct);
-- when the product mass is 1 g < m ≤ 10 g, the permissible error for mass
measurement is ± 0.004 g (± 0.02 ct);
-- when the product mass is 10 < m ≤ 200 g, the permissible error for mass
measurement is ± 0.01 g.
4.3 Permissible errors for mass measurement of precious metal products
4.3.1 Precious metal adornment shall be as specified in QB/T 1690.
4.3.2 The mass permissible error for gold bars with the mass not greater than 200 g is
+ 0.01 g (except the positive permissible errors agreed by manufacturer and dealer).
4.4 Permissible errors for mass measurement for precious metal setting jewelry
products for which mass is used as the settlement basis
4.4.1 The permissible error for mass measurement is ± 0.01 g.
4.4.2 Wherever diamond mass and precious metal mass are marked separately, they
shall be as specified in 4.1 and 4.3 respectively.
4.4.3 Wherever jewelry mass and precious metal mass are marked separately, they
shall be as specified in 4.2 and 4.3.
5 Measurement method
5.1 Measurement conditions
5.1.1 The environment for the use of balance shall meet the metrological requirements.
5.1.2 The balance used shall be approved in calibration within a calibration period.
5.1.3 During use, first carry out the metrological performance inspection and then
operate as specified in the regulations.
5.2 Balance selection
5.2.1 The balance weighing polished diamonds shall be as required in GB/T 30712.
