Off-cycle technology/device energy saving effects evaluation
methods for passenger cars - Part 1.Gear shift indicator
1 Scope
This document specifies the method to evaluate the energy saving effect of a gear shift
indicator for passenger cars.
This document applies to M1 vehicles with a gear shift indicator of which the maximum
design gross mass is not exceeding 3500kg.
This document applies to vehicles capable of burning gasoline or diesel, not hybrid
electric vehicles.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this
document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references,
the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

vehicles (CHINA 6)

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in GB 27999 as
well as the followings apply.
3.1 eco-driving indicator device
A device that can intuitively remind the driver to adjust driving operations (shifting
and/or acceleration and deceleration) in real time to reduce fuel consumption during
actual driving.
5.1.1 Before the test, the vehicle shall be warmed up by running at least one Global
Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Cycle (WLTC) or China Passenger Vehicle Driving
Condition (CLTC-P) specified in 4.3 of GB/T 19233-2020 on a chassis dynamometer.
5.1.2 Carry out the test under WLTC or CLTC-P according to the requirements of 6.1,
6.2, 6.4 and 6.5 of GB/T 19233-2020.Each group of tests consists of a continuous basic
fuel consumption test and a fuel consumption test according to the operation of the gear
shift indicator. It shall be completed by the same driver. Conduct 3 groups in total. Each
group of tests shall keep the vehicle in a fully preheated state, otherwise it shall be
preheated again in accordance with 5.1.1.
5.1.3 The basic fuel consumption test is performed according to the requirements of
6.4.2.1 in GB/T 19233-2020.And it is consistent with the certified test gear shift
operation. 1
5.1.4 During the fuel consumption test according to the gear shift indicator operation,
the driver shall perform the gear shift operation according to the gear indicated by the
gear shift indicator. At the same time, the emission test results shall also meet the
requirements of the Type I test limit of the corresponding emission standard of the
vehicle. For a gear shift indicator with only an upshift indicator, the gear shift operation
shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of C.1.2.6.5 in GB 18352.6-2016
during the deceleration process. The gear shift operation shall be completed within 2s
after the gear shift indicator indicates the gear. The shift process shall be quick and
smooth.
5.1.5 According to the methods described in 7.1~7.4 of GB/T 19233-2020, respectively
calculate the results of the basic fuel consumption test and the results of the fuel
consumption test according to the operation of the gear shift indicator.
5.1.6 According to 5.2, respectively carry out the repeatability inspection for the results
of the basic fuel consumption test and the results of the fuel consumption test according
to the operation of the gear shift indicator. If it can pass the repeatability inspection,
calculate the average value of the three test results as the basic fuel consumption (FC0)
and the fuel consumption according to the gear shift indicator operation (FCG). If the
basic fuel consumption test fails to pass the repeatability inspection, the average value
of the two test results with lower fuel consumption shall be used as FC0.If the fuel
consumption test according to the operation of the gear shift indicator fails the
repeatability inspection, the average value of the two test results with higher fuel
consumption shall be used as the FCG.
5.2 Repeatability inspection
Calculate the standard deviation (σ) of the 95th percentile distribution of the three test
results according to formula (1). Compare the difference between the maximum fuel
1 Vehicles subjected to the fuel consumption certification test according to the shifting operation method described
in 6.4.2.2 of GB/T 19233-2020 are not applicable to this document.
