- ADJUST the clause on the “Determination of grade” (Chapter 6 of 1996
version; Clause 6.2 of this version);
- USE the letter to replace substitute the molecular formula in the grade
calculation (Chapter 6 of 1996 version; Clause 6.2.3 of this version);
- MODIFY the “Acceptance rules” into “Testing rules” (Chapter 7 of 1996
version; Chapter 7 of this version);
- MODIFY the “Batch and number” into the “Batching rules” (Clause 7.1 of
1996 version; Clause 7.1 of this version);
- DELETE the “delivery and acceptance” from the original standard (Clause
7.2 of 1996 version);
- MODIFY the “Sampling method” into “Sampling method and same
preparation” (Clause 7.3 of 1996 version; Clause 7.2 of this version);
- MODIFY the “Testing items and product testing form” into “Testing”
(Clause 7.4 of 1996 version; Clause 7.3 of this version);

Natural gypsum
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification and level,
requirements, test methods, inspection rules, markings, packaging, transport
and storage of natural gypsum products.
This standard applies to natural gypsum mineral products output in nature.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Standard
through reference in this Standard. For the dated references, the subsequent
amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this Standard;
however, parties who reach an agreement based on this Standard are
encouraged to study if the latest versions of these documents are applicable.
For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document applies.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this standard.
3.1
Grade
It refers to the content of the useful components or useful minerals per unit
volume or unit mass of ore.
3.2
Free water (H2O-)
It refers to the moisture absorbed by the material from air.
3.3
Combined water (H2O+)
It refers to, in crystalline material, the certain amount of water molecules
which are formed through combination with ions or molecules through the
chemical bonding force.
3.4
Gypsum
It refers to the material which is mainly existed in the form of calcium sulfate
dihydrate (CaSO4 • 2H2O).
3.5
Anhydrite
It refers to the material which is mainly existed in the form of anhydrous
calcium sulphate (CaSO4), wherein the ratio of the mass fraction of
anhydrous calcium sulphate (CaSO4) to the sum of the mass fraction of
calcium sulphate dihydrate (CaSO4 • 2H2O) and anhydrous calcium
sulphate (CaSO4) is not less than 80%.
3.6
Mixed gypsum
It refers to the material which is mainly existed in the form of calcium sulfate
dihydrate (CaSO4 • 2H2O) and anhydrous calcium sulfate (CaSO4), wherein
the ratio of the mass fraction of the anhydrous calcium sulfate (CaSO4) to
the sum of the mass fraction of the calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO4 • 2H2O)
and anhydrous calcium sulfate (CaSO4) is less than 80%.
4 Classification and level
4.1 Classification
Natural gypsum products can be divided into three categories based on the
mineral composition. gypsum (code G), anhydrite (code A), and mixed gypsum
(code M).
4.2 Level
Each type of natural gypsum is divided into five levels based on the grade.
special level, level 1, level 2, level 3, and level 4.
4.3 Specifications
Product block size is not greater than 400 mm. If there are special
requirements, they shall be as negotiated between the supplier and the
purchaser.
5 Requirements
5.1 Natural gypsum products free water content (mass fraction) is not more
than 4%.
5.2 The grade of each natural gypsum product shall meet the requirements of
Table 1.
Table 1
Level Grade (mass fraction) / % Gypsum (G) Anhydrite (A) Mixed gypsum (M)
Special level ≥ 95 - ≥ 95
Level 1 ≥ 85
Level 2 ≥ 75
Level 3 ≥ 65
Level 4 ≥ 55
