This Standard equivalently adopts ISO 6865:2000 Animal Feeding Stuffs – Determination of
Crude Fiber Content – Method with Intermediate Filtration (English Version).
For the benefit of use, this Standard made the following editorial modifications:
a) Change “this International Standard” into “this Standard”;
b) Use the decimal point “.” to replace the comma “,” that is used as the decimal point;
c) Delete the foreword of the international standard; and add the foreword of this Standard;
d) Change the “Animal Feeding Stuffs” into “Feeding Stuffs”;
e) Add “GB/T 14699.1 Feeding Stuffs – Sampling (ISO 6497:2002, IDT)”;
f) Use GB/T 6379.1-2004 Accuracy (Trueness and Precision) of Measurement Methods and
Results - Part 1: General Principles and Definitions to replace the international standard
ISO 5725-1:1994; use GB/T 6379.2-2004 Accuracy (Trueness and Precision) of
Measurement Methods and Results - Part 2: Basic Method for the Determination of
Repeatability and Reproducibility of a Standard Measurement Method to replace the
international standard ISO 5725-2:1994;
g) Add number to the calculation formula according to the requirements of GB/T 1.1-2000;

Main technical differences between this Standard and GB/T 6434-1994 are as follows:
--- Replace sodium hydroxide standard solution with potassium hydroxide standard solution;
--- Use sea sand or diatomaceous earth to replace pickling asbestos;
--- Change the volume of the digestion liquid from 200 mL to 150 mL;
--- Use acetone to replace ethanol for the washing liquid;
--- Add a blank experiment;
--- Add the requirements for the pore size of the filter crucible;
--- Add the pre-degreasing and carbonate removal steps of the specimen;

Method with Intermediate Filtration
1 Scope
This Standard specifies a method with intermediate filtration for the determination of the crude
fiber content. A manual procedure and a semi-automatic procedure are described.
The method is applicable lo animal feeding stuffs with a crude fiber content greater than 10
g/kg.
NOTE: For animal feeding stuffs with a crude fiber content equal to or less than 10 g/kg, the method
described in ISO 6541 [7] may be used.
This Standard is also applicable to cereals and pulses.
